Regarded as one of the top point guards in the world playing outside of the NBA, Mire Chatman has played basketball for as long as he can remember. First, for his hometown of Garland, TX where he graduated from South Garland High School in 1997. Mire Chatman then continued his passion and love of basketball with a successful college basketball career.

Having a notable run from 2000 to 2002 at The University of Texas Pan-American in the Rio Grande Valley. At UTPA, Mire Chatman earned an array of accolades including Independent Player of the Year, All American Honorable Mention, Independent Defensive Player of the Year, and he ranked third in the NCAA in scoring average, to name a few.


Always seeking to display his skills on a higher platform, Mire Chatman’s talent, ability and dedication to the sport of basketball allowed him to continue his career in Europe for a very successful 13 years. With his sought after skills and dedication, Chatman received the opportunity to play for teams in Latvia, France, Russia, Italy and Turkey. Chatman fast became European basketball’s all-time leader in points, performance rating, steals, free throw attempts, free throws made, fouls drawn and was named MVP on several occasions throughout his seasons in Europe. Chatman knows success in basketball, in 2006, along with his team Dynamo Moscow he won the Eurocup and became the all-time leading scorer in Eurocup history.

At the end of 2014, Chatman announced he would be retiring from basketball to focus on his family, children and his basketball academy. Chat’s Basketball Academy opened its doors in to the public in McAllen, TX on September 10th, 2015. It has been signing up passionate students and athletes from across the Rio Grande Valley since. Spring Break of 2016, Chat’s will host its first annual 3 on 3 Tournament which will be open to the brightest basketball athletes both boys and girls in the RGV.

Mire Chatman is now dedicating his life to shaping the lives of young athletes by teaching them the sport of basketball and imparting the legacy of hard work and dedication that helped him excel and succeed in basketball around the world.
